PK. Yamoah
Peter Kwabena Yamoah (c. 1928 – 2014), professionally known as P. K. Yamoah, was a veteran Ghanaian highlife musician, bandleader, and mentor whose career significantly shaped modern Ghanaian music. He founded Yamoah’s Band in the late 1950s and became renowned for his guitar-driven highlife compositions, most notably the enduring classic "Serwaah Akoto", along with other popular tracks such as "Fa Asemkye", "Onantefo", "Obido Me", "Sika Mpe Rough", and "Nya Asem Hwe".[1][2][3]
Born around 1928 in Ghana, Yamoah emerged as a key figure in the highlife scene based in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, where he formed his band in 1957. His music blended traditional elements with contemporary guitar styles, contributing to the evolution of Ghanaian highlife during the mid-20th century.
