Gito Baloi
A Mozart bass player, singer and composer, he was born in 1964 in Maputo, Mozambique, in a very large family. He spent the early years of his existence exploring sound at an early stage using rudimentary instruments which he himself conceived from empty cans, nets, and any other material whose sound pleased his awakened spirit. At age 14, borrowing money from a friend, he made his first public appearances, earning some money to support his poor family in a country plagued by war. Inspired by other Mozambicans such as Hortênsia Langa, Fani Mfumo and Orchestra Marrabenta, his interest in music was growing and he joined the band Afro 78. In this project, even before turning 15, he has the opportunity to play in Nampula, Beira and Angoche, leaving Maputo for the first time.
